WBCT Donates to Food2Kids

Published on: July 30, 2014

Tery Overbey, President of Winder-Barrow Community Theatre, recently presented a check for $371 to Shannon Derrick, Barrow County Schools Coordinator for Food2Kids. This money was a portion of the income made from the children’s play “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” that was presented in July and also included donations from audience members for the Food2Kids Program. Winder-Barrow Community Theatre donates a portion of the income from every show to local nonprofit groups.

Food2Kids is a program through the Northeast Georgia Food Bank that involves providing food to needy children who might not have any food over the weekends. They get breakfast and lunch during the school days, but weekends and holidays might be a hungry time for them. The Food2Kids program provides a bag of kid-friendly food that the child takes home on Friday to feed him/her for the weekend. Presently there are 165 children being served in Barrow County Schools through this program. The cost to sponsor a child for the school year is approximately $260. If you or a group you are a member of would like to help sponsor a child or donate to this program, please contact Shannon Derrick at the Barrow County School System (770-867-4527) or Shannon.derrick@barrow.k12.ga.us.
